I am not don’t forget I am in Britain so what I see of Thompson is either FNC or the bits that are on UK I am only commenting on what I have seen and my impression and how I feel that would play nationally.

I am not anti Thompson per say but I do not think he is the person to beat Hilary he just does not give the impression to me that he can fight dirty which it is going to be needed.

Thank you for the information. It sounds like Fred did better than was mentioned earlier.

Historically, the choice of a VP is not all that important in terms of winning an election.

Now on to TW roundtable...
Michael Gerson might as well be a mouthpiece for the Democratic Party... no vision, no plan for change on health care and education, tied to the President...
Steffy: The GOP candidates are running on Bush’s platform. George Will says that not really, they’re running actually further to the right.
Dionne: Economic insecurity “it’s real,” GOP running out of answers, getting stale...

"Fred was confusing at best.."
He seemed crystal clear on a few points...
He does NOT support the Pro-Life plank in the Republican Platform.
He believes that institutions such as schools can restrict carrying firearms.
He doesn't believe that drug crimes are the end of a person's life and they should be given second chances.
It's good to see some clarity finally from Thompson on a few issues...

I disagree I am saying my own feelings and views. Is that no allowed anymore can we not say we do not find someone the answer even if they may express our views if the delivery and methods etc are not to our liking.
We are all different and we all see things differently this is how I see it and worry that in a modern era he is not the man for the job.

Don’t bother with him. He uses obnoxious attacks and intimidation to anyone who doesn’t bow down to Freddie the Great.

LOL. Under the same circumstances, political rallies and military audiences, I have no doubt that Fred’s skills as an actor would serve him in good stead. Fred can play the role of President quite well, rest assured. And he is a far better ad hoc communicatior than Bush.

He’s always been clear.
It easy not to be inTIMidated when you know your own mind and are willing to speak it.

I agree with you on how Fred Thompson looked. I was very impressed with his responses on all the subjects he was asked about. I’ve enjoyed reading all the comments but was surprised about Snug’s comment on how he looked. I thought he looked quite good.
To: kabar
More than likely, we are going to have a brokered convention
No doubt, a possibility...Whatever, the Pub candidates -their different positions notwithstanding- are a very diverse and accomplished set of politicians. Fred's MTP interview just concluded in my time zone, and he was effective in handling Russert's usual inanities.
Thompson showed humanity and toughness in measures that should not offend any but the most doctrinaire listeners. His introspective and avuncular style would play well against Shrill Hill and her immature opponents on the Dim side of things. And I agree that Fred's easy manor and reasoned approach to issues could make him the compromise nominee of a deadlocked convention.

Tim’s questioning left a lot to be desired. The ommission of any questions about immigration is proof enough that Tim is more interested is trying to blow Fred out of the water.

I, for one, hope we return to the era of the 10 month presidential campaigns,
I wish we could condense the campaigns to 3 months. This would have been the way to get big money out of politics. I suspect we all could maintain interest over a shorter time frame and perhaps issues would be more important than personal attacks.

As I have pointed out I had not read anything and only thing about Thompson I have seen is on TV which is not much the rest is via FR and the little news clips.
The points I have said are what comes over to me on the FNC debate and a couple of interviews not what commentators have said or inferred.
