ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- Faced with increasing violence and unrest, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf declared a state of emergency Saturday, government sources told CNN.

President Pervez Musharraf has faced a flurry of criticism from opponents in Pakistan.

Musharraf issued an order proclaiming the emergency and suspending the nation's constitution, according to a statement read on state television, and declaring martial law.

Musharraf is scheduled to address the nation at 1800 GMT (2 p.m. ET) Saturday.

The Supreme Court declared the state of emergency illegal, claiming Musharraf had no power to suspend the constitution, Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry told CNN.

From the Paktribune:

Answering a question regarding Pak-Afghan Peace Jirga, the opposition leader said if the Peace Jirga Declaration is given a deep perusal, it appears that both Afghanistan and Pakistan have vowed to launch a joint venture against Taliban.

Responding a query regarding President Musharraf’s re-election in uniform, Fazlur Rehman said MMA did not give the vote of confidence at the time of 17th amendment in constitution and now it is wholly out of question to vote for re-election of Musharraf in uniform.

Bin Laden was killed inside Pakistan in the last day or so

Who knows. But OBL should most certainly be looking for alternate accomodatiions.

Moosh is signaling that the succoring of jihadis is soon to end.

Which means that OBL is now a dead man.

I'm still wondering how Moosh is gonna' deal with the heroin kingpins like Hamid Gul (former chief of ISI), who became big heroin wholesalers from their connections to the Taliban and the Afghan warlords.

Heroin is the never, ever discussed engine behind a lot of Pakistan's problems.

The begining of the end.

Islamic “dmocracy” in action. The masses of extremist ne-neanderthals in robes are going to overthrow the handfull of rational leaders at the top and give the Mullahs their atom bomb.

Wow, it's got a new battery for increased range!

I wonder if the U.S. Navy has tumbled to batteries yet or are they still in the dark (so to speak)?

During summer the islamics in Bagdad tried to stop citizens buying ice blocks...because "mohammed didn't have ice".....so I guess nuclear weapons are ruled out.

Since about 1947 when colonialism ended Pakistan has spent more time under military rule than any other style of government.

Al Qaeda and the Taliban put a target on Musharraf’s back a while ago so he has nothing to lose by waging total war on them. That may include asking for U.S. air strikes on the terrorists camps which have been growing with impunity for the last few years.

When the mess is cleaned up maybe they can go back to their experiment in democracy.

Wrong century...this is not the mountain whiskey runners vs the Feds.

I thinking the Pakistan mountains will be flattened before the big "takeover". Seriously..I’m sure the "neanderthals" have enough brains to figure out the the dental work involved in such a plan would not be cost effective in the long run.

This is beginning to look real nasty and may drag us in a different direction

I'm wondering - hoping - the opposite may be happening.

Heretofore, Musharif has conducted a bombed/backed off/cease fire campaign. His idea or restrictions on him?

India issues a "regrets" statement and we say we're "disappointed" and then we both skip on into hopes for future election, etc. -

I wonder if we aren't all in this together - if Musharif is free of restrictions, might he finally go full bore against AlQ and the Taliban? And might we be poised on the Afghan side of the border there with fire power to stop the overflow - stop dead - and if India isn't also poised on her border.

One thing for sure - we won't be hearing the REAL 'program' on the MSM before it's pretty well moped up...

Better Martial law than Al-Qaida law.

Which (al Q law) was getting to the tipping point =

Better Martial law than Al-Qaida law.

Better Martial law than Al-Qaida law.

Better Martial law than Al-Qaida law.

Better Martial law than Al-Qaida law.

Bears repeating

The problem as I see it is, if Moosh looks like he is losing cntrol, do we sit by and just watch? If the talibunnies look like they are going to lose, does Iran just sit by and watch? I mean, and wasn’t clear, losing control in a military sense. If Jimma says the next election was straight up and Moosh loses, then so be it.
