You're right. We know these things about Rudy, but 9/10th's of 'R' voters do not. There is no doubt that moral conservatives would never vote for Rudy, but the goal might be to sever all ties between party leadership and the rank and file. A bigger than life Rudy hit would do this since the blue-blood 'R' leadership don't have another annointed son in the wings. Any candidate would take the nomination by tooth and nail and be certain to leave the party split aand bleeding.
