You’re really, really hoping it’s Thompson, aren’t you? We’ll get back with you after the big “reveal.”

Actually according to the first article posted the rumor was about a “prominent US Senator”, not necessarily about a “sitting” Senator.

Quote from original article...Within the next week or two, he says his magazine will expose a sex scandal of huge proportions involving a prominent United States Senator.

I looked for the original transcript but couldn’t find it, so all of this is paraphrasing. But a “prominent” doesn’t necessarily mean “sitting”.

He actually said “prominent” United States Senator. Not a “sitting” Senator.

Although I can’t imagine (unless it is a very recent scandal) that an affair could hurt Fred if it was during his “single” years.

So, that could add Thompson and Edwards to the list of potentials, right? Any others?

[I have to say, that I think the statement would have been worded differently if the party were an ex-senator, but I could be wrong, of course.]

It's not wishful thinking. It's just a speculation. Your accusation just shows that you don't know me and don't know what you are talking about.

My candidate is Duncan Hunter. If there were a rumor going around about a candidate being investigated for defense contractor kickbacks, I realize that people would be wondering if the candidate were Mr. Hunter. I'd accept that speculation as part what happens and understand how someone who had been associated with defense appropriations for so long could be a target. I even understand that some people may still think that he was involved in the Duke Cunningham scandal even though that possibility was investigated thoroughly and shown to be false. I don't like this aspect of things, but I understand that even good people do bad things sometimes. When they do, there is a scandal.

Once again, you are showing the paranoia and negativity that characterizes too many of Mr. Thompson's Free Republic supporters.

I really have no idea, I had just read the original article and noticed that all of a sudden everyone was quoting it as "sitting" Senator, and that originally it was "prominent". Since people generally address him as "Senator Thompson" I think it could go either way.

I also remember from the original rumor (not the Flynt statement) that the author said that he did not if it would affect the voters, "no matter how juicy" the rumor was.

To me, that excludes Hillary because I don't care how progressive you are, you can not tell me that finding out a leading Presidential contender is a lesbian would not affect the race in any way.

As for Fred, even if it was him (which I tend to doubt) unless it is a recent affair, while he was married, I do not see how that affects him. Everyone knows he was a "swinging single" for a while, and that according to him "many chased him, and he let a few of them catch him" (paraphrased).

Don’t ever believe that the beast will forget the oh so very public Monica (bless her little heart).

I don't believe she is the type to ever forget or forgive any slight, real or imagined, no matter how great or small.

Are you suggesting that Hillary is the only squatter Senator actually running for Prez?

Just cuz she is?

Are you certain of that?

“We’re still a bit incredulous on this one, but a top level U.S. Department of Justice official is telling Big Head DC that Michael Musto’s rumor about Hillary Clinton fooling around with one of her top female aides Huma Abedin is based in reality!

“I am close enough to Hillary and Huma to tell you that this ‘rumor’ is true,” the official says. “It is well known inside her campaign that Hillary and Huma are an item.

“If you call Hillary’s residence in DC first thing in the morning, Huma answers the phone,” the official continues. “Same thing late at night and on the road. It’s a closely guarded secret that Hillary’s inner circle guards at all costs.”

Make of that what you will, kids. But know this: The official is someone who has proven highly credible in the past.”

Larry Flynt article is on a different politician IMO.

There is no way the LA Times would break a major scandal involving Hillary.

There's always the Enquirer...

I prefer scraping my fingernails on a chalkboard to having to consider a Huma-Hillary liaison. Or a nice 50 mph breeze at 20 below.

It's just reality. I'm a middle-aged bachelor myself.

I never realized what happiness was until I got married at 38.

Then it was too late...

Whatever it is, it will NOT come out until Larry Flynt exposes a major Republican....

The Media will cover the Republican breathlessly, and the Hillary thing will only find a place on the blogs...

We’ve seen how all this works before...

Actually, your whole post and theory about Fred is BS. It’s just wishful thinking on your part. You are so obvious with your mudslinging.

Won’t stick on Fred. Not even a good try.

Thanks for your succinct reply to WFTR's loooongg defense reply to my objection over his not so subtle attempt to paint Fred T as the one quite possibly involved in a 'messy' sex scandal - being that he was 'single' for many years between marriages.

Totally uncalled for and obvious that the poster is backing another horse.

As I was reading through the long explanation, the phrase "...dost protest too much" filtered through and I was thinking, no use even commenting - except to alert other FR's that this poster's soft-smear that they pretend not to be - is suspect and, I will say it again, "irresponsible" = a smear is a smear - by that posters criteria, ANYone could be suspect of anything...not something you throw out on the world wide web...

I cannot imagine it’s a democrat, because Flynt is in bed with them (pardon the pun).

Look at his political donations:

http://newsmeat.com/fec/bystate_detail.php?st=CA&last=flynt&first=larry

He did give money to Kucinich, so perhaps he’s trying to ruin her because she is to the right oh him (imagine that) on the war in Iraq.
