He's apologizing for himself, NOT for the son.

The contortions are yours. I get that you have some sort of special anger towards certain words. I don't get that you will defend a son who sold a weak moment in his father's life for $15,000. And yes, Dog is apologizing for his own behavior either because he realizes it was wrong (hopefully) or because he realizes that others thought it was wrong (more likely).

Either way, the son's total lack of shame in selling out his dad does not make him the knight in shining armor. He is not a hero.
