Who Irritates You At Work?
Screamers, Gossipers, Top Most Irritating Co-Worker List
Shirkers, screamers and gossipers are the most irritating co-workers, according to a new survey.
Ceridian, one of the world's largest human resource service providers, identified the top 10 most irritating people at work; the findings arrive ahead of National Stress Awareness Day on Nov. 7.
Shirkers - people who come up with endless excuses to not work - took top honors stressing out the most workers, almost a quarter of the 1,004 surveyed.
Coming in at second place are screamers -- who throw tantrums and arguments in open spaces; The third most irritating co-workers are gossipers who talk behind colleagues' backs and exclude people from conversations.
Also in the top 10 are whiners who never see the positive in any situation; megaphones who talk loudly on the phone; hijackers who hijack meetings by discussing irrelevant topics; wanderers who take long coffee and smoking breaks; slurpers, the noisy beverage drinkers, eaters and gum chewers; sneezers, the people who come to work sick; and swearers.
The survey also found that only eight percent of workers surveyed asked their boss for help with the stress at work, while 58 percent of employees suffered in silence.
Sitcoms such as the "The Office" portray these behaviors as humorous personality quirks, but in a real office situation, it's no laughing matter.
Stressful disruptive behavior can lead to stressed out office workers, which in turn affect morale, productivity and eventually, the bottom line.
I worked out of the home for five years, going into the main office just a couple of times a month. Mostly all the communication I had with the rest of the office was phone or email.
I used to hate going into the office for group meetings. I was inevitably drawn into the politics by people I hardly knew. It was humorous to see how they would jockey for position, each clique trying to get me to join them for lunch so they could tell me how awful the other cliques were.
I loved working from home and wish I could do it again. The only problem was, I was always working - the phone rings during dinner, on the weekends, on holidays - even in the middle of the night - I would always answer it.
They’re illegal in this country. You might not find an American source!
The NERVE!!!
Not skunk scent...that deer scent stuff you can buy...hey right about now! (hint, it never comes out)
Nah, they're too busy whining to get their own work done let alone anyone else's.
Every two months???
Good heavens. I spend 30-40 hours per WEEK on conference calls, I kid you not. I work in worldwide marketing for a HUGE high tech corporation (Fortune 5). It’s a way of life. I have ‘em down pat. Speakerphones with mute are a tool of survival.
The stories I could tell about things I’ve heard in the background on these calls........
I ‘own’ worldwide marketing for a product set that will do over $1B this year alone. When I took it over 5 years ago, it was doing $120M per year....
Now....all new management. I work from home. Guess these years I haven’t done s**t. They want to see me “in the office”; wandering the halls to just be freakin’ “visible”.
Doesn’t matter that I’ve made them hundreds of millions of dollars.....and all long before they had these jobs of theirs.
We don’t see you? You don’t do spit. Well.....I’ve worked from home for MANY years and I put in far more hours than those who go into “the office”. I also get far more done. Guess that doesn’t matter now.
F**k ‘em. I’m moving to a new position early next year. Let’s see how all of these wonderful things happened on their own magically, somehow. Gonna be a hoot.
