My point is that if Romney *were* as well-known nationally as he is in Iowa and NH, he might be doing just as well.Maybe, maybe not. To know him is not necessarily to love him.
IMO, at least one reason so many Republicans are waiting to get engaged is because there are just too many candidates. Ron Paul is a fruitcake who never had any reason being in this race, so why should any of us be surprised that he hasn't dropped out yet. Huckabee is short on funds, but the illusion that is Iowa is keeping Hope alive (so to speak), so he's isn't about to bow out graciously anytime soon. Tancredo's campaign message is too thin, and I think more than the others he has the good sense to know he's going nowhere and will get out soon. Hunter, sadly, is lost in the shuffle; I feel for his supporters, and look forward to fighting shoulder to shoulder with them when he faces reality and drops out. McCain is like a Christmas tree that think's it's alive as it lingers on through the season, but in reality is quite dead.
That leaves a hopelessly diluted field. The longer it stays that way, the more likely it is that Republicans will not engage enough to vote in any great numbers.
I find myself coming around to the idea of a brokered convention with each passing day.
I vote for charts where you can SEE the lines!
Thanks for the clarity you bring to this discussion.
