LOS ANGELES - Bob Barker famously closed each episode of "The Price Is Right" with a pitch to spay and neuter pets. His successor is taking a stand on a more controversial subject: marijuana. Drew Carey won't tout toking up on "Price," but he defends the use of medical marijuana in a video posted online Thursday on Reason.tv.
"Smell that smell," the 49-year-old comedian says as he walks into a Los Angeles medical marijuana dispensary. "That's the smell of freedom."
The video is one of 20 Carey will host for the Reason Foundation, a nonprofit educational group whose ideas "some people call libertarian" and whose mission is to "advance freedom," said president David Nott.
Carey offered to produce brief documentaries on topics ranging from traffic congestion to immigration for the foundation's Web site, Nott said.
"Drew Carey connects with regular people. ... He has a regular guy's look at things, and that's why this seems like a great thing," he said. "We're interested in freedom across the spectrum, and good journalism about these subjects is important in the world of ideas."

I guess I’m watching “Price is Right” reruns. At least there has to be a couple thousand of them.
There are also plenty of people who smoke dope because they’re depressed, sad, their life is screwed up. Hell...tons of excuses.

I’m sorry, but according to some of the stalwarts who always come to these threads, you’re wrong. Pot didn’t help your wife and there were PLENTY of other things that would have. Your wife is a just a pothead who wanted to get stoned and used her cancer as an excuse. /s
Well, maybe I exaggerate a little, but you get the picture.
I know. God forbid they have to go through what my wife & I did....I suspect their take on it would change quite fast.

I don’t use hemp, but I will defend the plant to anyone. It’s a viable drug, great for making rope and other things. It’s an amazingly useful plant. It used to be grown as a crop legally, but no more.
Line made of hemp was stronger, more flexible, and more resistant to the damaging effects of salt water than other types of natural line.
No flames from me. If it helps a loved one laws be d@mned. Big difference between medical and recreational use in my book. Of course the taliban section of FR forgets where all the "cain" drugs come from. If its made in a lab it's ok.

Nothing. If it was treated exactly the same as alcohol. I guess my point was that if it helps a sick person, the way the laws are now they'd be hard pressed for a conviction if I was on the jury.
And do you also oppose the recreational use of tobacco and alcohol?
Nope. I enjoy both regularly.

Or as Keith Stroup (former Director of NORML) said, "We are trying to get marijuana reclassified medically. If we do that, we'll be using the issue as a red herring to give marijuana a good name. That's our way of getting to them just like the paraphernalia laws are their way of getting to us."

But I'm sure they're not using their anecdotal story as proof that marijuana should be legalized for everyone as medicine. Why, that would be irresponsible, dangerous, and just plain nutty.
No, nutty is allowing sick people access to a plant which may injure or kill them.
A plant which no major medical organization supports as medicine -- and that includes the American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute. A plant that does not have FDA approval.
A plant where a doctor does not know how to prescribe it in terms of dosage and frequency, what the side effects are for his patient, or what drug interactions there might be with other medications he's prescribing.
We've come a long way since Clan of the Cave Bear, yet you'd rather we chew on barks and roots.
That's my biggest objection on this issue. Then again, I never liked the taste of any kind of smoking, whether it was cigs, or pot.
But, but, the mommy government knows what’s best for you and your wife.
