We just got a call at our house that said "Wireless Caller" with a 214 area code. Thinking that maybe one of my kids had borrowed a cell phone to call home, I called it back. Turns out it's a Rasmussen survey for Mississippi, but with questions about Pres. Bush, the War in Iraq, amnesty, and treatment of illegal aliens. I took the survey, ignoring the questions having to do with specific Mississippi elections, but certainly answered the ones about the president and treatment of illegals. I called back a second time to see what would happen and it began the survey again. I didn't take it a second time.
Is it okay to post this number for anyone, especially from Mississippi, to participate? I didnt' just want to post the number in the event it violates some sort of rule.
Any thoughts?

Area code 214 is over here in Dallas/Fort Worth, FWIW.

The poll was definitely for Mississippi as it asked about the Gov. election of Haley Barbour

No, but does it violate any type of rule on FR or would it get JimRob in trouble if I did it?

No trouble then. It’s a poll, they want to know what people think. We are people.

How do you know it’s really Rasmussen? Why would they be calling from a wireless number?
To: SoftballMominVA
I really do not see any problem with posting the phone number.
People can call and give their opinion on the President and Mississippi issues.
In the end we may be able to influence the poll and raise the President’s poll numbers.

It sounded like the Ras polls I’ve taken in the past and no I have no way of knowing if it is truly genuine - is there any way for any of us to KNOW if a poll is genuine when we are cold-called?

Okay, freep me if you want it - maybe some others can try it and see if it seems genuine to them. It’s about a 5 minute poll

I did a little web searching. I couldn’t find any evidence of similar funny business related to Rasmussen polls.
If you have taken them in the past (I haven’t), and it seemed OK to you, then it probably is.
To: Nervous Tick
want the number? Freep me - I’m still not comfortable posting it. Unless a mod gives me the a-okay, I’ll go private for anyone who wants it.

I (shall we say) “contributed” to the poll.
Don’t have a lot of experience with these things, but my guess is it’s a) legit and b) done on behalf of some paid customer, rather than a general interest poll, contrary to the blurb at the beginning that it could be released to newspapers, etc.
Other than one question regarding whether a police officer checking immigration status invited discrimination, the questions didn’t seem to be “push” type questions.
For what it’s worth, my 2c
To: SoftballMominVA
Don’t post it... just freepmail it to anyone who asks... the DUmmies who lurk here will spam the poll if you post it publicly.
To: SoftballMominVA
Might even keep the number handy but not public. The number probably gets recycled for other polls. Might be kinda neat to check on it in a month and see if a new poll is there. If you post it publicly then they’ll just cancel the number and stop using it for polls.
