Unless I'm mistaken, it's worse than that; "BCE" means "before the common era."
Just ask 'em innocently when the common era started.
Yeah, it’s BCE and ACE now for “Before the Common Era” and “After the Common Era”.
Which I find completely hilarious, because - aside from the birth of Christ and thusly the beginings of Christianity - I fail to find what’s so common about the “Common Era” that differed from 1 BCE, 0, and 1 ACE.
