I said “helped”. I am well aware of the damage this man has done to himself by being silent, spending too much, never using his veto pen, illegal immigration etc...but the world view has been tainted not by his actions per-say but by those who have spent nearly a billion dollars since he took office trashing him and making him into the next Hitler.

Code Pink and MoveOn.org are threats to national security and it is about time he called them out by name.

President Bush met with President Joseph Kabila of the Democratic Republic of the Congo this morning in the Oval Office. (Transcript)

Later, in the White House Roosevelt Room, President Bush again urged Democrats to stop dragging their feet and send him an appropriations bill:

“October the 26th is the latest date in 20 years that Congress has failed to get a single annual appropriations bill to the President’s desk.”

The president also spoke about the overall incompetence of this Congress, mentioning their continued efforts to expand SCHIP (the House has passed a second and even more expensive bill than the one President Bush just vetoed), the stalled confirmation of Michael Mukasey as the next Attorney General, as well as Congressman Rangel’s plan to raise taxes by trillions. This morning President Bush spoke to business owners at the 2007 Grocery Manufacturers Association/Food Products Association Fall Conference in Washington.

“One of the reasons I’ve come by is to remind you how important you are to our economy… my philosophy is,I don’t believe the role of government is to try to create wealth. It’s to create the environment in which people are willing to risk capital, to expand their businesses”(Transcript)

The president again took this opportunity to urge Congress to “stop playing politics” and get back to work. The pressure seems to be working: Democrats have finally scheduled a confirmation vote for Attorney General nominee Michael Mukasey next Tuesday, November 6. (He was nominated in September.)
