This article says:
>>According to New York State law, with respect to driver licenses, the DMV Commissioner shall require that the applicant provide his or her social security number.<<
MICHAEL BALBONI, NEW YORK DEPUTY SECRETARY OF PUBLIC SAFETY says:
The law that I voted for said if you have a Social Security number, get it so that you can go after a deadbeat dad.
....
It did not say in order to get a drivers license, show a Social Security number.
Does anybody have the actual text of the law?
Couldn’t find the text, but NY DMV says, “You must show your Social Security card. If you are not eligible for a Social Security Number, you must get a letter from the Social Security Administration that indicates that you are not eligible for a Social Security Number. You must show the letter to the DMV.”
