Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, the Republican front-runner, leads New York Sen. Hillary Clinton by a razor-thin 45 - 43 percent, but voters say 58 - 37 percent that President George W. Bush's low approval ratings will make it difficult for any Republican to be elected President, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll released today.
Giuliani's lead reverses a 46 - 43 percent Sen. Clinton lead in an August 15 poll by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University, but Giuliani was up 49 - 40 percent May 3.
Illinois Sen. Barack Obama gets 43 percent to Giuliani's 42 percent. And Arizona Sen. John McCain ties Clinton 44 - 44 percent, wiping out a 47 - 41 percent Clinton lead August 15.
Clinton also has seen her favorability among American voters drop from 48 - 43 percent August 15 to 46 - 46 percent today.
In other head-to-head matchups in the current survey: Clinton leads former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson 46 - 41 percent and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 48 - 38 percent

Hillary showed last night, she is just not all that good. All she has in her corner is a willing and able accomplice in the media. That is probably worth at least the 15% in the polls just as they admitted with Kerry in 2004.
I hope the gop wakes up and jumps on the immigration issue. He stance on the issue could doom her chances.
Exactly. And she and Rudy are very similar. Not much of a choice for many voters.
The real problem for the Dems is Hillary is the best they have!
Rudy is a clear choice over Mrs. Bill Clinton. He gets the war on Islamofascism. She doesn’t.
This is good news for Republicans...it can help crack the “inevitability factor” that people have been throwing out for a Clinton presidency...
BINGO. With one small exception - after last night she might not have all of the media...
“President George W. Bush’s “low approval ratings” will make it difficult for any Republican to be elected President.” ......... Doesn’t this also apply to the current members of congress? When will they learn Bush is not on the ballot in 2008.
If that was the only issue, or even the most important one, you would have a great point.
Rudy is Bush on illegals, thats a deal breaker for me.
The survival of western civilization is the most important issue to me. That is one of the main reasons I like Rudy, despite total disagreement on guns and babies. He also did a remarkable job cleaning up NYC, and stood up to the NY media, which was incredibly vicious to him. His book - “Leadership” - is quite impressive.
It’s sad when a pro abortion, authoritarian, left leaning Republican such as Giuliani is leading in the Republican polls or is so high in head to head polls. These polls are name recognition polls. No way are conservatives interested in having Giuliani run as their candidate for the GOP. Giuliani is only mildly better than Hilary.
Rudy is weak on WOT. She might be weaker. But both would be unable to deal with it.
Well, considering the vast majority of Americans have no clue we are winning in Iraq and the Big “Taliban Offensive” in Afganistan was just Harry Reid farting again......what do you expect?
How is Rudy weak on WOT???
“Rudy is Bush on illegals, thats a deal breaker for me.”
And Clinton on literally everything else except the war and taxes.
Deal breaker for me as well.
>>He gets the war on Islamofascism. She doesnt.<<
He’s also better on spending, taxes, health care, economic growth, regulation, and Supreme Court nominations.
LOL, how lame is this? Of what possible relevance is this statement after they reported the actual numbers of who would vote for a Rep (Rudy) vs a Democrat (Hillary). Gotta love the DBM, ever vigilant as they seek to find some negative to offset good news for the right.
