Today
GLENN BECK: Did you watch with your mouth opening thinking, I dont even know what that answer about drivers licenses even means from Hillary Clinton?
MAYOR GIULIANI: You know, she was being attacked all night for taking different positions in front of different audiences and then by the end of the night, she took different positions in front of the same audience. It was pretty amazing. I mean, in politics Ive never quite seen that before. I know there are some politicians like Hillary. They say different things to different people. They use different accents in different parts of the country. Im used to that about her now. I had never seen it happen all in one place, in one minute. And Glenn, this is not a tough issue.
BECK: Ok. Tell me the answer to this issue.
MAYOR GIULIANI: The answer is no. Or if you believe the opposite the answer is yes. Obama gave the answer yes. Ok. I disagree with that. I think its a big mistake. I respect the man for having a position. My answer to it is no. Of course you dont give out drivers licenses to illegals. Among other things, itll make it even more difficult to deal with all the fraud, all the forgery thats going on.
BECK: Ive talked to several county clerks and they say they wont issue them in New York. So well have the locals going against the state, which I dont even know if it agrees or disagrees with the Fed. I mean--
MAYOR GIULIANI: Well, Im going to be campaigning for Republican candidates today in New York and then Im headed off to New Hampshire, and this is a big issue here and it has really hurt Governor Spitzer because of what youre saying. People see this as inherently irresponsible, but again, its notthis is not one of those difficult issues of war and peace and diplomacy that she usually often hides behind to have two or three different positions. This one you either know the answer to this, its yes or no, and then we can debate it.

Spitzer in NY is getting ready to offer illegals licenses under the false pretense that the state needs to keep track of them. All he is doing is giving a big fat wet kiss to illegals. The next step will be that anybody who shows up will be allowed to vote in NY. NO proof of citizenship, no proof of residence, just the phony license issued by the state.
Licenses to illegals is a bad idea. If an illegal can prove that they are in fact illegal, the INS or Homeland Security or whatever agency should round them up, charge them with being illegally in the country and deport them. You wouldn’t give a bank robber the money because they got out of the bank so you don’t give licenses to illegals.

"This is what I like about Giuliani. He goes after her relentlessly."
Rudy is a hypocrite and a Liar.
He takes positions on both sides of this issue and chides his opponent for doing the same.
Now all you Rudy apologists and supporters, tell me again why I should vote for this loser?

Giuliani said it was okay to give driver’s licenses to illegals? Interesting. Do you have a link or source?

It’s been so long since I got my first license, I forget what proof of identity I had to show to obtain one. But it would seem that you would have to show a birth certificate, or some form of proof of birth to obtain a license. How else do they know that you’re who you say you are, and your vital statistics such as your DOB are what you say they are.

Guess What, GOP? Hillary has handed you the branding iron - don’t just wave it around - skewer her with it and make sure it leaves a mark!

I know a lot of liberal Democrats from New York who hate Giuliani even more passionately than you do. Regardless of how you feel about him personally, you may end up having to vote for him in November of 2008 if he is the Republican nominee and the alternative is Hillary Rodham Clinton. I ask you in all sincerity to think this through.

Too bad he has no credibility on the issue, having filed lawsuits on behalf of illegals as mayor of New York and protecting them with sanctuary laws . This RINO shouldn’t be allowed to appear on a conservative talk show without having to explain why he went out of his way to coddle illegals in New York.

It's based on the fact he is liberal, a flip-flopper and man with no character that can't be trusted.

Giuliani's Record on Illegal immigration/Immigration Immigration politics have similarly harmed New York. Former mayor Rudolph Giuliani sued all the way up to the Supreme Court to defend the citys sanctuary policy against a 1996 federal law decreeing that cities could not prohibit their employees from cooperating with the INS. Oh yeah? said Giuliani; just watch me. The INS, he claimed, with what turned out to be grotesque irony, only aims to terrorize people. Though he lost in court, he remained defiant to the end. On September 5, 2001, his handpicked charter-revision committee ruled that New York could still require that its employees keep immigration information confidential to preserve trust between immigrants and government. Six days later, several visa-overstayers participated in the most devastating attack on the city and the country in history.
New York conveniently forgot the 1996 federal ban on sanctuary laws until a gang of five Mexicansfour of them illegalabducted and brutally raped a 42-year-old mother of two near some railroad tracks in Queens. The NYPD had already arrested three of the illegal aliens numerous times for such crimes as assault, attempted robbery, criminal trespass, illegal gun possession, and drug offenses. The department had never notified the INS.

CNN clip:
Announcer: "Back in 1996, mayor Giuliani went to federal court to challenge new federal laws requiring the city to inform the federal government about illegal immigrants."
Rudy Giuliani: "There isn't a mayor or a public official in this country that's more strongly pro immigrant than I am. Including disagreeing with President Clinton when he signed an anti-immigration legislation about two or three years ago."
The New York Immigrant Coalition Press Release, August, 1989:
Rudy would continue to make city services available to all immigrants, regardless of immigration status.
Prohibit city workers from reporting undocumented immigrants to the INS, unless criminal activity is involved
.
Make sure that city workers understand what benefits immigrants are entitled to
.
Encourage outreach to immigrant communities to encourage their utilization of city services
.
Support the use of interpreters and translators in city government
Support bilingual and bicultural education with goals of learning fluent English and maintaining native language skills
.
Oppose making English the official language of the U.S.
Support adding alienage to protected class under Citys Human rights Law.
Additionally, he has supported Bush's guest worker program.

Interesting. Nothing about driver’s licenses, which was the topic at hand. Giuliani has repeated said that he believes illegal immigration is handled differently at the local level than the federal level. He said that in the 90s as well. I believe you’re mixing apples and oranges here.

Giuliani has long history of coddling illegals in New York as well as a mostly liberal record. He is man of such little character that he was parading his mistress around New York while alienating his children.
Why on earth would you believe he is now suddenly someone dedicated to securing the borders?
It's as if a candidate's record and character are meaningless to those that want to live in a fantasy world and believe Giuliani is a conservative.

Giuliani Opposed Welfare Reform in Order to Protect Illegals
At the heart of the issue was an executive order by former New York City Mayor Ed Koch (D.) that had been reissued by successive Mayors David Dinkins (D.) and Giuliani. Executive Order 124 forbade city employees from telling federal authorities the immigration status of illegal aliens who sought social services.
On these grounds, Giuliani maintained that the welfare reform law violated the 10th Amendment of the Constitution.
In a speech he delivered Sept. 11, 1996, exactly five years before the massive terrorist attacks, Giuliani explained the dilemma. He said the welfare reform legislation contained a provision that attempts to reverse an executive order that New York City has had in existence since 1988, which basically says that New York City will create a zone of protection for illegal and undocumented immigrants who are seeking the protection of the police or seeking medical services because they are sick or attempting to put their children in public schools so they can be educated.
His reasoning was that by allowing illegal aliens to access social services, it would help make New York City cleaner and safer.
Illegal and undocumented immigrants should be able to seek medical help without the threat of being reported, possibly deported, Giuliani said in his Oct. 13, 1996, Mayors Address.
