Mexico's Carlos Slim and Microsoft's Bill Gates have been overtaken in the race to be the "World's Richest Person," at least for today, according to reports from India's news media.
The Economic Times and the Press Trust of India reported Monday that Mukesh Ambani, the chairman and largest shareholder of India's Reliance Industries, surpassed Slim, Gates and the well-known investor Warren Buffett, due to a strong rally in Reliance shares. Ambani owns almost half of Reliance's outstanding stock.
Here's how the Indian reports rank the top five as of today:
* Mukesh Ambani - $63.2 billion * Carlos Slim Helu - $62.2993 billion * William (Bill) Gates - $62.29 billion * Warren Buffett - $55.9 billion * Lakshmi Mittal - $50.9 billion

Seems like there’s a strong grouping at the $63 billion mark. Someone really needs to bust out and head over $100 million.
“100 million” = “100 billion”
Yea, but I bet he’s not happy!
No it doesn't.

Mukesh Ambani
Two Americans, two Indians, and one Mexican in that top 5. Well, good for them.

Carlos Slim - Mr. Crony Capitalist - does not deserve to sit in such company.
He made his dough through connections just like a Russian oligarch.
Figures there’s a math major in the crowd.
Those who can count and those who can't.
Maybe next year! :-)
Don’t be dissin’ Uncle Charlie! ;)
And to think of things I could do with just 1 billion dollars....
I haven’t heard particularly complimentary things about either Slim or Ambani.
Interesting that of the world’s 5 richest people, 1 is from Mexico and 2 are from India.
And the top 5 have about $300 billion between them. That’s just astonishing.
now thats funny
Most all of it is invested. They live on an allowance which is ample but not astounding.
As with almost all rich people. But they still own the wealth, and the amount that they own is astonishing.
