I have high cholesteral but don’t take medicine for it. Don’t want to. I work out a lot and am in good shape. I had a doctor tell me I’d have to eat nothing but carrots to lower my cholesteral even a little bit. It’s just inherited. My grandmother just died at 97 and had cholesteral over 500.

The funny thing is when I tried to get personal training throught the Y they asked me some medical questions. One was if I had high cholesteral. I should have lied because they refused to train me because of it. Ridiculous.

I hope it doesn’t happen, but you are at more risk for a myocardial infarction than you know.

My advice to you is get your LDL below 100 asap.

Denial is not an effective long term strategy. In fact, it’s deadly re: this subject.

I am speaking from experience.

There apparently are some people with very high LDL levels who don’t experience adverse cardiovascular events. Must be a genetic difference in metabolism. But please don’t encourage other people to not take statins if they’re prescribed. That wouldn’t be a responsible thing to do. BTW, a locally well-known athlete died here last week at a youngish middle age of a heart attack.
