You know he supported SCHIP. I’m not sure he is as conservative as most FReepers assume he is.
Did he support Schip before or after they starting adding people of higher income and “children” in their twenties? I think knowing the answer to this question will tell us more about him.
I am from Louisiana and I must say.... you are probably correct. I have hope for Jindal, but low expectations. He is indeed a conservative, however once he faces the reality that most Republicans in the legislature don't have in their hearts a strong belief in Limited government, he will likely just seek to restrain the growth of government. In years past, Louisiana had more jets in it's state fleet than California. A previous governor asked for an accounting of the number of state vehicles-- the officials could never provide it. Louisiana like almost all other states has been moving steadily towards more and more control over our lives. Heck, I doubt that most state legislators could name more than 3 of the Bill of Rights. If Jindal leads and accomplishes anything dramatic in the way of truly "cutting" government spending and reducing regulations, I will be surprised. No doubt he is talented and conservative, but he is going up against near impossible odds.
