a federal smoking ban is just going to put a lot of people out of work (especially small business) and requires lots of $$$ for enforcement. So it is not just smokers who should be upset.
If you want to reduce smoking, require non-smoking as a prereq for receiving medicaid. Or perhaps an ad campaign. But coercive methods such as bans and taxes just won’t work.

Well, the anti tobacco jihadists are convinced that using do gooder public serpents like Mike to institute high taxes on tobacco products and kicking smokers out of their favorite bars and restaurants will coerce them to quit and reduce smoking rates.

Coddling addicts has never worked. Make it illegal and throw the junkies in jail.

So... you seem to believe that requiring non-smoking as a prerequisit for recieving MedicAid is not coercive, correct? How do ya figure?

Anti-tobacco jihadists are going about this the wrong way. The more they act like authoritarian douchebags the more kids will want to light up in protest.

If they want to stop kids from smoking and convince adults to quit, use the goofiest most uncool guy in the world and have him tape a commercial IN FAVOR OF SMOKING...

"Hi, kids, I'm John Kerry. If you want to be cool like me, smoke Merit Ultra Lights!"

I guarantee nobody ever smokes a cigarette again.
