It’s not just India. And it’s not just “anti-abortion” advocates. There are plenty of anti-contraception advocates, as well as plenty of people who seem to think nobody should try to discourage desperately poor people from having more children than they can possibly feed (much less educate) by any means at all. The ones who claim that lots of babies are an economic asset. They’re not an economic asset to anyone except those who exploit them. But realistically, declining to employ these children won’t improve their lives — in most cases, there just aren’t any better options available for them, which is why their parents sold them in the first place.
