A British newspaper reported Sunday that it found children as young as 10 making clothes in a sweatshop in New Delhi, India, that the Gap Inc. fashion chain planned to sell in the West.
The Observer quoted the children as saying they had been sold to the sweatshop by their families in Indian states such as Bihar and West Bengal and would not be allowed to leave until they had repaid that fee.
Some, working as long as 16 hours a day to hand-sew clothing, said they were not being paid at the unidentified Gap supplier because their employer said they were still trainees.

And in Maine children get off school to help the family farm harvest potatos.
So what.
Implementation of “the rising tide lifting all boats”.
My Dad always told me that weeding and picking beans was work for three-year-olds, because they don’t have to bend down so far.
My husband met the guy who owned/started The Gap in Cuba years ago during a fishing tournament. He was British maybe he no longer is.
What I want to know is whether or not that violates any law in India. If not, it’s just more Liberal claptrap....
In Pennsylvania, I worked 15+ hour days on my parents farm helping with potato harvest when I was 5 years old. At 10 I drove trucks. Not SUV’s but 70.000 lbs. trucks down the dirt road to the the paved road. What a hoot! I wouldn’t trade that for anything. I wish we still did it. I’m now an orphan since both my parents died. Jeez, will Pelosi and Clinton give me federal benefits because I’m an orphan and a Caucasion white male? Yeh, right. These communist politicians have to be sent where they belong. You know where that is.
Apparently in India it is OK to sell your children into slavery and they have to work themselves out.
I always thought that if I were a half black, half indian female with some deformity and a disease the govt. would buy me a mansion and Mrs. Clinton would give me a the medal of freedom award.
and as for where I think you’d like to see these clowns go? I’m with you.
Not sure what this has to do with this story. did your parents sell you to strangers for money too? If so they should have been tossed in prison.
We outlawed child labor in this country when we were wealthy enough to do so. Despite it's recent growth, India isn't.
