BAGHDAD - U.S. forces will turn over security to Iraqi authorities in the southern Shiite province of Karbala on Monday, the American commander for the area said, despite fighting between rival militia factions that has killed dozens.

Karbala will become only the eighth of Iraq's 18 provinces to revert to Iraqi control, despite President Bush's prediction in January that the Iraqi government would have responsibility for security in all of the provinces by November.

Screw the media. This is excellent news and here they go editorializing and blatantly putting a negative spin on it. Shame on you, Forbes.

The President-god is supposed to tell us what the future will bring. That's his job. Therefore, when the future does not align perfectly with what he predicts, he should be criticized bitterly, by us, who should do the criticizing in a whiny, childish yet self-congratulatory tone.

That's how the Constitution spells out the President-god's role, anyway.

The great thing about freerepublic is that someone like yourself says *exactly* what your thinking in the first five posts. In this case the first.

The rewrite:

Nearly 50% of Iraq’s 18 provinces have now reverted to Iraqi control, lending credibility to President Bush’s bold prediction in January that the Iraqi government would have responsibility for security in all of the provinces by November.

Also better that more time is allowed to Iraq to stand-up, elected Democrats would cut it short just to make the President look bad, too bad, let freedom ring LOUD.

Excellent. Too bad you can't teach the MSM to write headlines like that. The MSM prefers al Jazeera-style headlines. ;-)

(((Allegra)))

I hope you go on to write a book about your experiences. I will be there at the book signing!

There may only be 300 of us left on FR who held out for the vision (based on researching facts, knowledge of human nature and faith in God) but we will win because truth and the stubborn hope of a better future are on our side.

This is good news.

Strangely, when The British similarly handed over Basra province to the Iraqi’s, there were a number of people on this site keen to portray it as a surrender (indeed this is still going on, I’ve commented on one such thread today). It’s not only your media responsible for the negative spin, a number of freepers have bought into it as well.

Hiya, Earthdweller!

I keep a journal and I do plan to write something when I'm done with all of this (whenever that is...LOL). It just hasn't formulated in my mind yet.

It remains pretty peaceful here. We heard two explosions close together earlier today, but haven't heard any news relative to it.

I'm hoping it was either a "stupid terrorist story" where the idiots just blow themselves up and nobody else, or better yet, maybe it was our guys kicking someone's butt.

You're absolutely right. I have encountered many of them on here who threw defeatism in my face when I spoke of the hope and progress here. I've seen it all along and knew that it just needed some time.

They were reporting what they heard on CNN; I've been reporting from the ground. But they always knew so much better. LOL

Independent war correspondent Michael Yon commented strongly on the "Basra is a lost cause, that's why the Brits are leaving" line, in a recent dispatch.

This is from an email to a blogger, but I got a similar one from his mass email announcing a new dispatch at Yon's site:

Bob,

Basra is not in chaos. In fact, crime and violence are way down and there has not been a British combat death in over a month. The report below is false.

From here.
