OK.... Based on this and other supporting information... I am very close to changing my opinion of Fred Thompson from "acceptable" to.....
UNFIT --- to be Commander in Chief..
I need to study his position in a bit more detail before I make a final determination..... If he is not 100% committed to FIGHTING and DEFEATING Al-Quida in IRAQ.. 99% is not good enough... If you want to be Commander in Chief.. there better be NO DOUBT in your mind that the FRONTLINE in the war on Terror is BAGHDAD, IRAQ... PERIOD !!

So what part of Iraqis going about their daily business without being blown up would involve LEAVING AL QAEDA IN IRAQ?
Settle down Francis and read the article again....

That’s the problem here. Red flags; just like Arnie. Will he go soft on illegals too?

What seems to be missing from the dialogs being offered here is the fact that the Iraqi have been strongly hinting they want the US to stay in Iraq once things fully stablize. Talibani and a few others are on the record a year back or so as stating Iraq would be well served for US and western forces to stay in country.
Maliki made a comment not that far back, I believe perhaps mid 2006 that Iraq would like to become a NATO partner.
Duncan will surely take this route if the republicans can gain the hill as well as stay in the executive branch.
And with todays economies at hand, if things where done right, it could not be a burden on the tax payer.
Hunter is the best man for any of the national defense and military establishment issues. And surely he wants the fences to go up on the southern borders, and toughter immigration standards set.

But do note that if we have largish facilities in the theatre, it'll make the possibility of fratricide more problematic if we have to go nuclear, retaliatory or otherwise.
Thompson may have a valid point, or he may be waffling.
If he can't come up with a clearly focused position paper, we'll know.
