Israel gets 'Chinese' admiral

The Israel Navy's new commander is of Chinese descent, a first for the military top brass in the Jewish state. -

Admiral Eli Marom -- nicknamed "Chiney" -- took over as navy chief this month after his predecessor, David Ben-Bassat, quit amid criticism of his conduct during the Lebanon war. -

Marom's mother was a member of the Chinese Jewish community, born to a local man and a Russian emigre woman. She married Marom's father after he fled his native Germany for China during World War Two. In 1955, the couple moved to Israel, where Marom was born. -

Marom's asiatic appearance may have helped him advance in the Israel Navy. -

"The fact that Chiney looked different forced him constantly to show that he was better. He became one of the very best very quickly," one former comrade told the weekend Yediot Acharonot, which ran a profile of the new admiral. -

Marom, 52, trained as an engineer and ascended through the ranks, overseeing major naval operations such as the 2002 capture of an Iranian-supplied weapons ship en route to Gaza.

Sure, Israel was spying on the United States, and Pollard gave Israel information on, horror-of-horrors, Iraqi missiles that the US knew were targeting it.

Now do you honestly believe that the US hasn't spied on its allies? How naive can you be?

The only way I could ever explain this to myself was that Israeli intelligence knew LBJ’s intentions, and they took action. I only have to look at Clinton’s disgusting action on behalf of the Serbian Muslims to realize what a dem president is capable of. Israel is and was far beyond what poor Slobo was ever capable of. I have come to believe you are correct.
On being on a new message board- I always look for who drags up the ‘old liberty’ to see whos who.

FF victims, like the Crew, who seem to be “the other side” have almost nothing to add to the discussion- as with most ff victims they feel it was intentional but can’t know The CRUX of the matter; intent.

I recall an Admiral Willis Lee from WWII. One time in the Pacific his group was getting “friendly fire” (I believe his flagship at the time was the USS Washington), broadcast “This is Admiral Lee, Ching Lee, Chinee, cease fire”.

Lee steamed northeast, passed Savo Island on the starboard side and turned east. From there on, Halsey's orders stopped and Lee's initiative took over...

As Lee's ships sped through the night, his radio operators heard American radio traffic. PT-boats were reporting Lee's moves in plain English, blaring, "There go two big ones, but I don't know who they are." The PT-boats swung in to attack Lee's ships.

Lee personally got on the TBS voice radio and called Guadalcanal, asking that the PT-boats be ordered to pull out. Guadalcanal, however, didn't believe Lee was who he claimed to be.

Lee bellowed his Annapolis nickname: "This is Ching Chong China Lee! Chinese, catchee? Refer your boss about Ching Lee. Call off your boys!" Lee's temper did the job. Guadalcanal answered, "Identity established. We are not after you."
