I think the tipping point happened long ago when government and employers took over the financial responsibility for health and health care from the people.
Absolutely yes.
Once the entitlement genie is out of the bottle, good luck getting her back in...
Too true. I personally think that the only way to stop the socialist slide is to take control of the purse strings. The passage of withholding has done more to hurt this country than anything b/c most people have no idea how much money the government takes, add to that the progressiveness of the income tax...well, we are at the point where 50% of the sheople don't care what things cost b/c they aren't paying for them. Take back the purse strings, make all taxes visible and felt by ALL so the CongressCritters can no longer vote buy or easily use class envy to take more from certain segments of society.
I'm not holding my breath. sigh.

( The socialist income tax system turns US citizens into beggars or quitters!)

Smart not to hold your breath on this one.
Eliminating withholding, without a doubt, would be the single best way to restore fiscal integrity to the government. You are correct that most people have no idea what they really pay in taxes. This will never happen though as both parties are addicted to the trough of federal dollars.
