Several years ago I had a friend visiting from Alaska and he had the gout really bad. He constantly smoked joints , as he said , it was the only thing that would ease the pain. Later on I began to get the gout too. I went to the Doctor and he put me on pills that made it go away quickly and now I take pills for it and it has never bothered me since. Not once did I have to smoke dope to get relief. And neither did this woman. So you can blubber all over her if you want but don't ask sane people to do so. Also I'd advise you to change your screen name as this is a Lib story about a Lib woman written by a Lib writer, and that doesn't seem to bother you. Where is the loathing coming in.

Yes you can. Try this. Go get your pistol, load it, put it up to your ear. Now, pull the trigger. There’s living proof. OOps, well, it was living a moment ago.

She tried pot. That didn't do the trick. Did it really alleviate anything doctor? From 2002:
"It made the pain go away," she says, squinting against the incongruously cheerful sun working its way into her living room. The aura inside Prosser's Upper Miller Creek home, meticulously tidy in a street of like houses, is otherwise not unlike a sickroom. "The pain is never completely gone," Prosser corrects herself. "But with marijuana, it's manageable." With daily pot use, Prosser says she can compose music, write, take care of her daughter and live a fairly normal life. Without it, she says, "I'm sunk."
and
"If I had another choice, some other medication to take," Prosser says, "I'd take it in a heartbeat."
I can't find that she ever claimed that she was misquoted, so I take these as authentic.

“Prosser suffered from an autoimmune disease that gave her allergic and dangerous reactions to most pharmaceutical painkillers. So she turned to marijuana. When that was no longer available she had no where else to turn.”
Maybe this story is completely true...but it sounds awfully fishy. Name the disease, and I’ll look it up. Till then, I’m calling BS.

Because it didn't cure her? Because it didn't remove 100% of the symptoms, side-effect-free? Is that the standard you use?And what were her symptoms, doctor? Do you know what immunosuppressive disorder is? If yes, please prescribe what you think is best...

(The religion of Darwinism = Monkey Intellect) Speaking of religion...I'm curious about yours, if you don't mind sharing.
You don't happen to believe in following a man who advocated relieving the suffering of those afflicted, yet didn't have a word to say about banning pot, do you? I take it that your crusade to keep people in pain or to have to choose death over suffering is your own creation, eh?

“Good post. As Rush once did, I’m considering a trial separation from the Republican party.”
I think Rush would agree with the government on this.

I think Rush would agree with the government on this.I wouldn't assume much about his feelings on drug legalization anymore.

I am a pragmatist before I am a political animal.
We spend shiploads of money each year to prosecute people who can grow this stuff in their backyards. Sounds like we are trying to "push a rope".
I don't smoke pot or cigarettes but its hard for me to get excited about either of them being illegal to use and grow. As long as I have the right to say to people that you can't use this stuff on my property and its not permitted on or in Government owned public property then who gives a rip.

The government ought to leave people alone—this is a sad and tragic example of one citizen being victimized by silly “rules,” and our wasteful war on drugs. In my view she should have had the freedom to use whatever brought her relief. But we wouldn’t let her.

Yes you can. Try this. Go get your pistol, load it, put it up to your ear. Now, pull the trigger. Theres living proof. OOps, well, it was living a moment ago. And you are murdering the English language. Words have meaning. The words you are looking for are 'to kill' as in to kill yourself. One subset of killing something is suicide and another is murder (which is a mutually exclusive use).
By the way, my use of 'murdering' above is a valid use. Yours is not.

I am not a doctor (but have sometimes offered to play one... ;-)
Seriously, though, are you saying that the physician's word should trump the patient's own experience?
Sorta like... "I don't care if you don't get any pain relief from that drug---I say it works, so it works!"
Interesting approach.
But anyway, medical conferences (some, at least) are open to the public (if you are willing to shell out big bucks), and something relevant to your question just gave me a grin. Sitting on the chair next to me is an American Psychiatric Association conference satchel, with the slogan "The Promise of Science, The Power of Healing"...hmmm...Promises, Promises... :-) It was a freebie from conference registration, but of course, to be given out free, it was sponsored. Let's look at the logo to the right of the conference logo... "GlaxoSmithKline"
Look also at the example of >red yeast rice extract. While physicians were recommending this to their patients to reduce cholesterol, it turns out that the reason it worked was that it contained statins. Well, can't have people taking red yeast rice extract instead of buying Mevacor! FDA to the rescue!

Nice going, attack on grammar when all else fails. LOL If you hate someone and you kill them, murder. If you hate yourself and you kill yourself, accident? It’s not good grammar to murder yourself so make it look like an accident. Hey, your good.
