Even time seems to have sped up. As a kid I remember the time between suppertime and bedtime was much longer. I had time to do ride my bike down the street, wade in a few mud puddles, look for my little brother who was always hiding, go to the corner grocery for Mama and still have time to watch some black and white TV. Seems like now I barely have time to read the paper, brush my teeth and hit the sack. Maybe that’s the difference between the ages of 10 and 61. ;o)
This is how we chose to raise our 14 year old. We moved west from a city of 300,000 to one of 3,000 with 278 kids in high school and the home football games are great events!!!

I saw your post too after I posted mine. Self accountability and common sense and integrity are not the strong points of our society anymore.
I will never forget our church suppers....The Lutheran Ladies Aid would fry chicken, homemade mashed potatoes with gravy, homemade pies.....of course summers with hot dishes and molded jello salad that would melt into the hot dish...the whole melting thing would bug me

Yes, My wife and I both remember that past with fondness. When we retired a few months ago, we moved from a large city/suburbs to a small town in central Illinois far from any large metropolitan area. We’ve found a lot of that old friendliness and neighborliness still exists here. It’s a real pleasant feeling to know that those old values still exist.

Maybe more so than today, but don't kid yourself. There were breach of contact cases being adjudicated in the 40s and 50s. Yes, some things were better, and some things weren't. There is a tendency to exaggerate the good and overlook the bad (34 people killed in race riots in Detroit in 1943). All in all, I'll take 2007 and look to the future (while trying to bring some timeless values along with me).

Me too. The frustrating thing is that it is right out there in the open and has unfolded just as planned, with us paying for their progress in destroying us.
As Ben Franklin warned about a Republic, "If we can keep it.", a free and open society based on Christian principles is a sitting duck for evil people who use our values and freedoms against us. Our compassion leads to support of all the "social programs", our sense of empathy and fair play cause us to tolerate Political Correctness, our consideration of others keeps us mute when our freedom is taken away because of "nasty cigarettes", and of course we are softies to appeals "for the children", etc.
They know this and callously use our virtues against us.

The street where I grew up was on a steep hill. On snow days, the street was never plowed. Instead, the town put up barricades, and kids from all over brought their sleds, and we had a grand old time, from sunup till late at night. On a snowy Saturday afternoon, there would easily be 100 kids out there. We would even groom the surface for faster speeds.
Today, if they didn’t plow the street, the residents would be calling their lawyers.
