Exactly what I was thinking. Did they also contact Best Buy to replace the television, albeit they don't have an electrical outlet to plug it into? I would chalk this story up to a ditsy bride.
ATT is a utility, no different than gas, electric, water so I can see why she would notify ATT and not Best Buy. One normally does not get a monthly bill nor does one have a monthly service provided them by Best Buy.
What we have is a lady who says she had this conversation with someone at ATT. I am not saying she didn’t, just pointing out we should perhaps not jump the gun on this.
I can’t even be sure she spoke with someone whose first language was English, even if she did speak with someone at the California exchange. :)
She should have asked for a supervisor. Sometimes I think people are so eager to be victims they don’t use good judgment. Still, one could see how she might have more on her mind at the time than she could handle.
I would have asked to speak with a supervisor and if I didn’t get satisfaction after that; One fire damaged receiver goes on sale on E-Bay. One ATT receiver, with the story behind it right there on E-bay for the world to see. I am thinking ATT is not going to want that kind of publicity. If they do, it’s E-bay, who knows how much you might be able to get for a burned out receiver on there. :)
