The Nothing Party

Posted on 10/25/2007 9:05:24 PM PDT by Reform Canada

Thursday, October 25, 2007 The Nothing Party There’s been a lot of criticism of Stephane Dion’s decision to order his caucus to abstain from voting on the Throne Speech.

After thinking about it for awhile, it actually makes sense to me. It’s the perfect symbol of what the Liberal Party has become, from the initial deterioriation of the party’s stature at the end of the Chretien era, to the disastrous tenure of Paul Martin, to the substantively vacant leadership race that led to the election of Stephane Dion as leader. The party, having discussed in great deal what it was against, failed to lay down what it was for. So by not voting in the House, they effectively encapsulate their contribution to the business of the current Parliament, which is: nothing. They may as well be fans in the stands at a hockey game, screaming at the players on the ice.

How on earth did the most dominant political machine in the Western world reduce itself to this? How did it reach the point of becoming so petrified of fighting a minority government that it has abdicated its institutional role to vote against the policies which it opposes?

I’m not suggesting the Liberals are wrong to avoid an election. They would probably get throttled, and they know it. But self-preservation is not a instinct peculiar to Liberals: any party in the position of the current LPC would probably do the same thing. What is fascinating, though, is comparing the relative positions of the forces that now make up the Conservative Party, circa 2001, and the Liberals today.

Not unlike the conservatives in those days, the Liberals today are in disarray; face a formidable foe; suffer from low morale; need money; and are sorely lacking in leadership at the top. If we look back to see what caused the transformation from that sobering time for conservatives to the governing CPC today, there is a common element, and it has a name. It’s Stephen Harper.

So the question Liberals should be asking themselves is: do we really believe that Stephane Dion can do for us, what Stephen Harper did for the Conservatives? If so, then by all means, carry on as you were, boys and girls. If not, they had better start thinking of ways to pitch him overboard before he sinks a ship that is already listing heavily.

The socialist party aka Liberal party is forever the political party of corruption, embezzlement and kickbacks.

My only question is, how in the world can such a corrupt party still be a political party? Imagine, a mafia like political party dolling out hundreds of millions of dollars to their friends and friends` businesses who in turn do little or sometimes nothing for the money, then kick back large portions of those millions in the form of donations back to the party.

Th socialist, aka Liberal party should have been branded as a mafia and outlawed.

Thats typical of a party that has stayed in power to long and thus became stale. Staying in power resulted in bribing the populace. That can only run so long before the opposition gains power by shear good ideas. I always viewed Paul Martin as stop gap or holding pattern PM until the Liberal Party could come up with something better, in which they didn’t. I think the Conservative Party will lose when they cease having good ideas that resonate with the populace.

I’m still hoping to see the Little Dictator Jean Chretien frog marched into police custody when charges are laid for his institutional corruption and thievery.

Of course, I’m also hoping that the Washington Redskins will win another Super Bowl before Jesus comes back. ;)

It was largely the fault of the conservatives. The Liberals won the 1993 election because Brian Mulroney’s Conservatives split three ways- the small-c conservatives started the Reform Party, the fiscally and socially conservative Québec nationalists formed the separatist Bloc Québecois and the “Red Tories” remained. It took a decade for them to rebuild the coalition.
