I've always been under the impression that she was rather close to her mother. In various interviews that I have seen over the years, I don't remember hearing her mention too much about her father, but in her Oscar acceptance speech she did acknowledge her mother, who was sitting in the front row of the ceremony, "I want to thank my Mom who's given me the strength to fight every single day to be who I want to be and given me the courage to dream that this dream might be happening and possible for me. I love you Mom so much."
