I heard about this Democrat woman named Evelyn Gandy about 40 years ago being Lt. Gov of Mississippi...nah, couldn’t be possible

It hasn't been that long ago!

Edythe Evelyn Gandy is an American politician from Mississippi. Gandy was the Lt. Governor of Mississippi from the year 1976-1980. A Democrat, Gandy continues to remain active in Mississippi Democratic politics. She publicly endorsed Al Gore for President in 2000, and also attended Democratic chairman Howard Dean's visit to Mississippi in 2005.

1959, Gandy was the first woman to be appointed Mississippi’s Assistant Attorney General, and in the same year, she was elected Treasurer for the State of Mississippi, the first woman to be elected to a statewide constitutional office.
