Too many abortions: Lord Steel
Lord Steel, architect of the 1967 Abortion Act, says today that abortion is being used as a form of contraception in Britain and admits he never anticipated "anything like" the current number of terminations when leading the campaign for reform. The Liberal Democrat peer, whose bill legalising abortion in certain circumstances marks its 40th anniversary on Saturday, says an "irresponsible" mood has emerged in which women feel they can turn to abortion "if things go wrong".

At last the abortion laws here are being looked at - there are a few good souls fighting the pro life corner, but it seems highly likely nothing will change which is a crime IMO.
Why the surprise. They legalize murder and then are stunned when people don’t approach it with a sullen mood. Fools.
Things WILL change in time, because the liberal base will eventually wither and die because they’ve aborted their future torch bearers.
He must have been Satanically possessed; no god-damned fool could possibly have imagined anything other than the situation we have now.
The damned fool, and I mean that literally, has an answer though: more Catholic bashing, more feminazi solutions, more of the same.
Scrub harder, Lord Steel. You've a lot more bloodstains on those hands to wash away.
As long as the idea persists that Abortion is no big deal, that life isn’t being destroyed, nothing will change.

Typical left wing thinking (or lack of thinking, in this case). They see an “injustice”, they campaign against it, appealing to the emotions principally. They never think through what the unintentioned consequences of their “do-gooding” might result in. As the old proverb goes, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
David Steel is a good man and a canny politician. In fact the only real thing wrong with him is that he has an unrealistic, overoptimistic and distorted idea of Human nature. Unfortunately, that is a flaw more than sufficient to do horrid emotional, social and physical damage.
