The J-10 in the picture is carrying PL-8 missiles, which are licensed copies of the Israeli Python III.

the Python III was sold with the approval of the US State Department. If your'll remember it occured in the 1980's, during the Cold War, when China was an ally of the US.
I believe that the PL-9 is a knock-off of the Italian Apside.
