Karma Rewards Ferrari Champion (F1 Grand Prix Championship)

When Kimi Raikkonen, racing for Ferrari, won the 2007 Formula One world championship on Sunday, it definitely had the feeling of karma finally coming back around for him — although it took a while to develop.

After qualifying on Saturday, Raikkonen sat third, behind Felipe Massa and Lewis Hamilton, who qualified first and second. Fernando Alonso was fourth. At that point, it would’ve been tough to believe in a Raikkonen title.

Then Hamilton made a big mistake. Fighting Alonso for position through the fourth corner, he braked late and ran wide, falling behind and tracking over the...

FR F1 fans, how about a break from politics :^)

Did the 2007 final race and championship live up to your expectations? I've been folling F1 for decades, it seemed this year had the most unexpected surprises. And still more, now Mclaren sues to disqualify some cars that finished ahead of Hamilton, but he doesn't want championship by default!

I was hoping Alonso would win, but Kimi deserved it....Comments?

Yup. He came on strong at the end and made fewer mistakes.

You make some valid points, I would add that in the time I’ve watched F1 the administrators of the sport just don’t care what we think here. I believe they’ve discontinued the F1 race at Indy now, even some of the drivers when interviewed didn’t seem to care if they raced there or not.

But, I made most of the F1 races at Long Beach in the 70’s & 80’s and they didn’t seem to care much what we said back then either. I guess they have a big European fan base and cater to them.

Another factor would be the lack of American drivers, which you’d think they’d try to remedy to open up another fan base.

One of the most enjoyable Grand Prixs I ever saw was the one Mario won at LB. He got a full standing ovation around the race track on the ‘cooloff’ lap.

I actually watched Kimi at a distance throughout this year, just didn’t think he’d make it. Followed Alonso & Hamilton step by step. Kinda liked Massa’s enthusiasm.

Wonder if Massa’s mood on the podium was reflecting his sense that Alonso might drive a Ferrari soon....

I liked Alonso when he first came in but he really blew it this year. Like Kimi, he came into a new team that already had a driver more well-known to the team. Kimi never moaned about #1 status, just got on with the job. Ditto for Hamilton.

Alonso is on the outs with McLaren, who now have a superstar younger and cheaper than Alonso. Alonso's path to Ferrari is blocked and no other team can give him a decent shot at the title. Kimi gained this year, Hamilton gained a whole lot, and poor Alonso, well, he lost the most.

Nice to see Kimi win it after all the bad breaks he’s had over the years of his F1 career. The guy talks quietly and lets his driving speak for himself most of the time.

While I consider this F1 season to be one of the most boringly predictable ones, it still fun at times.

There will be some interesting driver moves this offseason.

Alonso might go back to Renault were he and Flav can have their love child together.

That leaves an open McClaren seat.

There is an open seat at Williams with Wurz leaving.

Ferrari will most likely keep Massa and Kimi and would be the smart thing to do.

Kubica and Heidfeld will stay as BMW drivers. They got a good thing going.

Will be interesting to see if Coulthard is out at RedBull and who they replace him with.

Fisi is out at Renault, thats for sure.

Toyota will kick Ralf to the curb and he might not even drive next year.

I lost interests with F1 with all the rules and regulations imposed. Every year it seemed the powers to be came up with more and more restrictions and “laws”.

We should find out soon if Alonso is gone from McLaren or not.

Hamilton or Alonso could have won the championship if one or the other had been designated #1 driver based off the early race points to contend the championship.

Yes, and of course seeing these cars run at circuit is an unforgettable experience. Very loud and quick gear changes!

Yup, I think next year they take the traction control away.

Thought y’all would appreciate the humor here:

An elderly man on a Moped, looking about 100 years old, pulls up next to a doctor at a street light. The old man looks over at the sleek shiny car and asks,

“What kind of car ya got there, sonny?”

The doctor replies, “A Ferrari GTO. It cost half a million dollars!”

“That’s a lot of money,” says the old man. “Why does it cost so much?”

“Because this car can do up to 240 miles an hour!” states the doctor proudly.

The Moped driver asks, “Mind if I take a look inside?”

“No problem,” replies the doctor.

So the old man pokes his head in the window and looks around. Then, sitting back on his Moped, the old man says,

“That’s a pretty nice car, all right. . . but I’ll stick with my Moped!”

Just then the light changes, so the doctor decides to show the old man just what his car can do. He floors it, and within 30 seconds the speedometer reads 110 mph. Suddenly, he notices a dot in his rear view mirror. It seems to be getting closer! He slows down to see what it could be and suddenly WHHOOOOOOSSSSSHHH! Something whips by him going much faster! “What on earth could be going faster than my Ferrari?” the doctor asks himself.

He presses harder on the accelerator and takes the Ferrari up to 150 mph. Then, up ahead of him, he sees that it’s the old man on the Moped! Amazed that the Moped could pass his Ferrari, he gives it more gas and passes the Moped at over 190 mph and he’s feeling pretty good until he looks in his mirror and sees the old man gaining on him AGAIN!

Astounded by the speed of this old guy, he floors the gas pedal and takes the Ferrari all the way up to 240 mph. Not ten seconds later, he sees the Moped bearing down on him again! The Ferrari is flat out, and there’s nothing he can do! Suddenly, the Moped plows into the back of his Ferrari, demolishing the rear end. The doctor stops and jumps out and unbelievably the old man is still alive.

He runs up to the banged-up old guy and says, “I’m a doctor. . . . Is there anything I can do for you?”

The old man whispers,”Unhook my suspenders from your side view mirror.”
