State lawmakers are bracing for a tidal wave named Douglas Bruce.
The anti-tax crusader and author of the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights may end up in the legislature. Bruce made it official Monday when he announced he would seek state Rep. Bill Cadman's soon-to-be vacant seat, ending weeks of speculation.
Bruce said he wants to stand against the "Democrats' socialist agenda" and attempts to raise taxes. "I want to be in state government, but not a part of it," he said.
"If your goal is to drain the swamp, you have to wrestle with the alligators."
Cadman is the favorite to replace Sen. Ron May, R-Colorado Springs, who announced last week he is resigning a year early.
Bruce filed paperwork with the secretary of state late Monday to run for Cadman's District 15 House seat in 2008.

At the Capitol on Monday, Democrats and moderate Republicans expressed concerns that Bruce would bring his confrontational style to the legislature.
Sounds like just what is needed...
After former Gov. Owens supported Referendum C, the national momentum for TABOR died along with the Colorado GOP efforts to hold the various state and federal seats.
Bill Owens will not admit any of this, but the Colorado GOP needs to start to rebuild.
Maybe this is a start ?
I am not a Bruce fan, personally. But I certainly support him and his efforts one hundred percent. To me, he comes across as a jerk but I cannot deny he is correct in wanting to limit government. He is also one of the most effective spokesmen in CO to pull this off.
Bruce may be ajerk, but that is what is needed anymore, if the GOP is going to be anything but a minority party for along time.
Doug Bruce should shake things up! We’re going to need as many anti-tax crusaders in the state house as possible considering our “moderate” governor’s promise of things like universal health care.
Bruce will get the headlines as he drawns lines in the sand.
The Democrats will scream.
It will make for an interesting time.
Owens had the potential but dropped the ball in so many ways.
Hopefully Bruce can define his positions well and stand his ground.
