Actually, it should take that many years for new growth to blanket the area. This is nature doing it's thing.

The homes will be rebuilt with more fire resistant materials.

I'm not disputing that this isn't a catastrophe of biblical proportions. It's just that this real estate is just as valuable as it was last week.

Most of the houses I have seen in that area, are already stucco with tile roofs. Many if not most are built with concrete block exterior walls. The stuff inside will burn of course. But how much more fire resistant can they get? Maybe poured concrete furniture, including beds, with nomex covered fiberglass for padding and mattresses?
