Dave needs to really show some dignity here, he’s becoming a pathetic joke. Not but a few months ago he was threatening to run for Governor again and deprive Jindal of his first-round victory.

"Treen, who lives in Mandeville, said he built relationships with members of both parties in the House, a foundation that will help secure funding for the state's recovery from hurricanes Katrina and Rita. "I think, having had that experience and those contacts, I can help us," Treen told the Associated Press in an interview. "There is a shortage of funds for people who want to come back to rebuild. That will be a major concern of mine in the Congress." Why does he need an elective position to talk to these friends of his? If he truly was concerned, he would have already spoken to them.

Indeed. Does he dislike golf and shuffleboard that much?

So did any one of these guys have stones enough to serve in uniform or are we sending yet another Christopher Shays type to vote on war funding?

He is also trying to get Edwin Edwards out of prison early.

The last paragraph of this article is the part that bears reading. Given the heavily Republican nature of this district, we should select the most strongly conservative, pro-border security, pro-national amnesty, pro-2nd amendment, and pro-national security candidate who runs. No need to make concessions there.

Scalise should win easily. (I hope)

His name has been mentioned. My two cents is we need him in the state Senate more than in Washington. Lots of other well-qualified conservatives could go to DC.

It seems to be the consensus that Scalise will be the successor. Is he the best of the bunch ? (Well, obviously better than Treen)

Isn’t John Kennedy going to take Landrieu’s seat?

I’ve read good things about Scalise. He was elected to the state Senate, which helps his name I.D., but could open him up to charges of office-hopping.
I don’t know anything about the other Republicans thinking of running.

My apologies, state senate, okay, I read a while back Scalise was mentioned, don’t know enough about LA politics on state level.

True, but it could also be explained that since elections are held at an off-kilter time in LA, an even “greater” opportunity to serve the people came up. If he wins and remains past the next redistricting (where LA will probably drop to 6 House members), he might conceivably be merged in with the NOLA House seat, since they’ll have to greatly expand into the suburbs to make up for the population drop.
