Big Giuliani problem: Who cares about NY City?
John Seiler ^ | October 22, 2007 | John Seiler

Posted on 10/22/2007 11:09:26 AM PDT by freedomdefender

Rudi Giuliani’s campaign depends to a great extent on his clean-up of crime in NY City in the 1990s. It allows him to cover up a multitude of his non-conservative policies. Consider this exchange from yesterday’s GOP debate:

Fred Thompson: Mayor Giuliani believes in federal funding for abortion. He believes in sanctuary cities. He’s for gun control. He supported Mario Cuomo, a liberal Democrat, against a Republican who was running for governor; then opposed the governor’s tax cuts when he was there.

Rudi: I had the most legal city in the country. And I took the crime capital of America and I turned it into the safest large city in the country. The senator has never had executive responsibility. He’s never had the weight of people’s safety and security on his shoulders.

Well, whatever Rudi did in NY City, across the country crime also fell sharply in the 1990s:

According to new research by a University of California, Berkeley, law professor, the crime rate dropped dramatically during the 1990s, falling 40 percent in cities and states across the country and in all major crime categories from homicides to auto thefts, producing the longest and deepest crime decline in the United States since World War II.

And besides, since when is local crime a federal responsibility? We need to get rid of all federal involvement in local police matters, including cutting off all funding using U.S. taxpayers’ money.

Finally, most Americans just don’t like NY City. They hate the Yankees baseball team. They don’t like the pushy attitude of New Yorkers. And they don’t like paying for the vast federal subsidies that go to the city.

Maybe Rudi can be Hillary’s running mate.

Taxation: Giuliani > Clinton
USSC nominations: Giuliani > Clinton
Second Amendment: Giuliani >= Clinton
National Defense: Giuliani >> Clinton

In other words, RG is clearly better than Hillary on three of four - 75% (and is no worse than tied in the other area). So its 75% for Rudy, 0% for Hillary and 25% tie, using this person’s matrix.

Choice seems pretty clear to me.

Hehehehe, i don’t know about that being the only “take away”. I really enjoyed Thompson telling Colmes how ignorant he was and to “read up on it!”

Can anyone say “Bitch slap!”.

And not one candidate seems to be aware of Guiliani’s law firm’s ties to Mexico and the Trans Texas Corridor, the first leg of the NAFTA super highway. Wake up Hunter, Thompson, et al.

the crime rate in NYC had already started to fall under Mayor Dinkins.

Even Dinkins couldn't sustain the pace of a murder every 4.5 hours, every day, for a whole year...a pace that was reached "on his watch".

If folks wanna bash Rudy for his stances on immigration, the 2nd amendment, etc., please go right ahead. But you're going to look foolish attacking what he accomplished in NYC.

No matter what I always say, listen to the enemy. And if folks would take some time to do that across the board, they’d see the same thing.

Rudy is absolutely hated by the liberal establishment and the left in total.
Listen to “independent” Bill Maher and his ilk a little and you can see that immediately and there is no way if the guy did get the nomination that will be reduced.

It would be completely the opposite. Yes, Rudy has an ego and has not extended kudos to Bratton and others. But he is a politician. And one who made a trip with Al Damato to Washington Heights to score crack in a ridiculous attempt at the media spotlight.

So see, some of us know all of it the good, bad and ugly with Rudy. We just know that Hillary is far worse.

Rudy sues gun manufacturers

It's also worth noticing that when Rooty Toot talks about the abortion rate dropping in NYC and the adoption rate going up, NYC was following national trends in both cases.

There was recent reporting on Rudi's inflated claims about adoption. They found he never talked about it, did almost nothing to encourage adoption, particularly adoption as an abortion alternative. But he was appearing at every NARAL functions, taking their money, etc.

This article is pretty blunt about the dislike for NYC. Can't say I disagree.

Taxation, USSC nominations, Second Amendment, National Defense. IN no particular order, btw.

Omigod, a principled voter. You are obviously The Enemy. We'll have to track you down now.

If you have proof that NYC takes in more from Washington than it pays in, I'd like to see it.

That's wrong. New York gets back far less than it pays in. New York would benefit greatly from more federal tax cuts. They'll never vote for us though to get them. That's because it's a Dim machine state.

They'd rather drag the rest of us into their socialist world than just do what's best for themselves.

That isn’t true.

Have you considered that New York had the most crimes in the nation, and a 66% decrease in crime there would add significantly to the national decrease.

What are you going to do if the National Committee selects Rudy as the GOP candidate? Better not close your mind totally. I face the same quandry with Rhino McCain and/or Far-rightist Paul. THEN...how would a Romney/Giuliani or a Thompson/Giuliani ticket grab you?

I've closed my wallet to the GOP, and don't mind not voting for any of the above scenarios. If the GOP wants to run a Conservative ticket, they'll get my vote.

Any ticket with Giuliani is not Conservative (and Giuliani wouldn't play second fiddle to Thompson or anybody else).

If you are really think it was serious, you have a major problem. I am tired of hearing that Rudy Giuliani “owns” 9-11. His answer for any question is “When I was Mayor of New York on 9-11”. What did he actually do? He is no different than John F’ing Kerry claiming VietNam in every breath.

I'm curious how anyone can be for national defense and for sanctuary for illegals at the same time? Rudy is not tough on illegal immigration so how is he supposed to keep his promise of safety for this country?

So he may be better on Taxation than Hillary, but since he's pro abortion, anti-second ammendment and pro-illegal invasion, that means he's one notch better than hillary? There is no indication he would appoint Justices that we would consider conservative.

The crime rate was certainly dropping in New York from 1990-1993 before Giuliani reached office:

The city's murder rate fell by 13.7 percent, robbery fell by 14.6 percent, burglary fell by 17.6 percent, and auto theft fell by 23.8 percent.

Giuliani was about as responsible for the drop in crime in New York as Clinton was for the economic growth in the 1990s.

New York State gets back less in federal spending than it sends to Washington in taxes. At least it's been that way for the last twenty years or so.

Granted, New York's problems aren't always America's, but "attitude" cuts both ways.

Here’s is a statistical overview on crime rates. The drop in crime in the Northeast is notably larger than anyplace else, but I haven’t read the entire report yet.

The adoption rate nationwide has risen dramatically in the past twenty years. However, nearly all of the adoptions have been of Eastern European and Chinese babies. The reality is that for all intents and purposes there are no “unwanted” American babies to adopt.
