What I've heard was that you first have to shave half of the area. You then soak the unshaved portion with lighter fluid and ignite it. As they flee from the fire, you stab them with the icepick. Sounds a little extreme to me.
If they get listed as endangered the new cure will be shoot, shovel and shut-up.
