The Real Mrs. Semler (Minuteman Lady in Kansas City)
The Pitch ^ | October 11, 2007 | Carolyn Szczepanski

A few months ago, mostly just gardeners and Minutemen knew the woman who’s been at the center of Kansas City’s biggest controversy.

....Funkhouser's appointment alienated the Hispanic community and many allied organizations that call the Minutemen a vigilante group....[snip]

[snip]..Semler acknowledges that she wasn't exactly forthright with Funkhouser when, before he appointed her to the parks board, he asked whether she was a member of other organizations. She says she thought Funkhouser was interested in groups like the Clay County Rose Society and the neighborhood association, where she held a leadership position. Her membership in the Minutemen, she says, just didn't seem relevant.

"It wasn't something I had any power in other than being a member," she tells The Pitch. "I honestly didn't even think it was important."

To her, the civilian border patrol group offered a chance to add her voice to a growing movement opposing illegal immigration. She tells The Pitch she was impressed by the fact that the leader of the local Heart of America chapter, Ed Hayes, was a former police officer. She joined in 2006....."

This is the most detailed piece I have found on Frances Semler, the controversial appointee to the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Board and member of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps.

I believe the bold that she had no clue at the time that her MCDC membership would matter.

The leftists in America are becoming masters at political profiling. They want to keep out any opposing views from being in any political spotlight.

I admire this person for standing her ground on principle.
We canot allow the left to squash opposition with tactics of intimidation and threats.

This is a fight for the survival of America as it was intended to pass on to our children and grandchildren.

Thanks for the post. The Pitch is something else and I generally don’t read it unless I happen to come across it by accident when downtown which isn’t very often. Seems Mayor Funkhouser has found a cause and principle with which to stand firm early in his mayorship and I am so glad to say I have a mayor I am confident will clean up the messes in this city. From TIF excesses to political excesses, Mayor Funkhouser has the gonads and is willing to wield the axe against the axis of evil in this town. I speak fluent Espanol and I am willing to accept legal immigration from our Southern border. I welcome those who seek a piece of the American Dream (La Suena Americana) I am not, however, sympathetic to illegal immigration from any country. Had I the time to devote to the Minutemen I would serve at the border in my Civil Defense role as did my grandparents during WWII watching for enemy aircraft along coastal Kalifornia. Long live the Minutemen and thank you Frances Semler for not caving and stepping down to suit the LaRaza agitators.
