Oh, yeah, the pro-life crowd was soooo easily persuaded to vote for gerald Ford, Bush 41 in ‘92 when he started talking of a one world order, Dole in ‘96 and Bush didn’t just almost lose the election by a few hundred votes in 2000 because a DUI revelation cast doubt on his credibility. keep lying to ourself if you think enogh of the pro-life crowd won’t walk.
The so-called Christian Right is easily swayed by politics. Were Giuliani to get the GOP nomination against Hillary Clinton, I think we’d hear a lot of formerly vociferous pro-life evangelicals humming a slightly different tune.
***What? You mean, guys like Dobson saying they’ll vote third party before they vote for the tootyfruity abortionist would hum that tune? And the millions who think the same way? Do you honestly, really think this way? I’m starting to think that maybe the republican party has been taken over by people who think this way, and they wouldn’t know a principle from a dangling participle. That, in itself, is probably the strongest signal I can see that suggests the republican party is doomed, like the Whigs who were so quick to compromise their loosely-held principles.
