Quite different than a lot of the media reports. But they wouldn't have an agenda (i.e., getting Hillary elected by Rudy winning the GOP nomination) would they? Looks like he finally has boarded the constitutional amendment train.

No, he’s proposing a constitutional amendment to stop judicial activism in regards to marriage. This way, if definitions are to change, elected representatives must argue it and deal with the consequences.

Elsewhere on his website, the author of this post found the reception to Romney to be quite a bit cooler than Fred:

“Of all the speakers who received standing ovations, his [Romney’s] was the first one that I noticed was markedly not a full standing ovation.”

People can tell the difference between a real conservative and the ersatz variety. I am looking forward to the debate tomorrow night. Fred has a real opportunity to do some broken field running versus the Mayor of New York and the governor of Massachusetts, given their baggage. Talk about targets of opportunity:

Let’s see. Commend Rudy for his consistency but suggest that he is in the wrong party on 92% of the issues.

Welcome Romney to the prolife movement and congratulate him on his election year conversion, but ask him why, in 2004, when he had the power, he chose to knuckle under to the Mass Supreme Court and actually IMPLEMENT same sex marriage, when he was under no compulsion to do so. Suggest to him that as liberal as Schwartzenegger is (and a supporter of same sex marriage), even he has the good sense and the intestinal fortitude to veto gay marriage and require it to be put to a referendum of the people. Tell Mitt he is tired of this pro-mariage masquerade of his, and that his actions in Massachusetts speak louder than his words now.

There is so much to go through. Fred’s problem is to decide what to focus on. I really wish that the minor candidates would get off the stage, so he could cover everything. Only three have a serious chance to be nominated.

Fred is now a major target of the left, watch the show and see for yourself.

I don’t care if I have a charismatic president. I just don’t want a communist, marxist or jihadist president.

I agree. The bottom level candidates are just an annoying distraction at this point.

The earliest primary elections are a little over three months away. Way past time to get serious.

Go FRed. I love the way his campaign is being run. Very traditional. Yeah! It will resonate well.

The above emphasized statement (my emphasis) was perceived by many people that he was now for a federal marriage ammendment. I don’t actually take that statement as meaning that. It could be that he has another amendment in mind that deals with the process of the Judiciary directly and not over a specific issue.

I agree with the author's interpretation. Why limit this to homosexual 'marriage', when the danger of judicial activism covers a wide range of issues?

“But, but, but.....Fred is hiding in a cave, got in too late, is only a face, blah, blah, blah.”

He’s too old looking, he looks dead, he’s too lazy, he isn’t campaigning hard enough . . . he’s rising in the polls because of a fluke, he’s peaked too soon, our candidate has been running forever, and Fred is still the target because the naysayers candidates are not conservatives.

Rasmussen Reports

Friday, October 19, 2007
The perception that Rudy Giuliani is the most electable Republican may be slipping a bit.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 66% of Republicans believe that Giuliani at least somewhat likely to win the White House if nominated. That’s down from 72% a month ago.

Sixty-one percent (61%) of Republican voters now say that Fred Thompson is at least somewhat likely to win in nominated. That’s up from 57% last month.

The gap between Giuliani and Thompson virtually disappears at a higher level of confidence—23% of Republican voters say that Giuliani is Very Likely to win if nominated while 22% say the same about Thompson.

Being seen as the most electable candidate is important for Giuliani because two-thirds of Republican voters see him as politically moderate or liberal. Thompson is seen as the most conservative candidate in the field.
