I don't know, but it's about-damn-time they changed it back. I've seen too many Marines in cammies in public, on TV, etc., and it looks like hell.

I was active duty from ‘92 to ‘97, and we weren’t allowed then, either.

I don't understand though why changing it back is getting so much support from others who've served and moved on to civilian life. I'm all for keeping life uncomplicated for the men and women of the Corps who are enjoying libo. If the sight of them out in town also happens to remind the civilians that Marines have income to spend and it's all to the good to cater to their needs, I'm happy with that. Sends the wrong message to tuck them away as if they should be ashamed of their uniforms.

Yes, indeed. I was in the army from 74 to 78, and the troops were not allowed off base in fatigues.

They never did, they just didn’t enforce it around Jacksonville, NC. LIved there for a few years, young guys in their cammies was always a common site.

I was in Marine Corps from 1981 to 1985 and stationed at Camp Pendleton for much of that time. Cammies were not allowed off base back then so I don't understand the controversy.
I do remember going to Hill Street in Oceanside and after having way too much to drink, we'd go to the Wienerschnitzel and get a bag of chili dogs to offset our pending hangover the next day. They were open until something like 3am!
