I’m glad you all write like you know anything about these boys. Yes, it was a stupid thing to do, and I know they are very sorry for it. I’m glad you’re all so perfect that you never did anything dumb when you were a teenager. One of the boys has a brother in the army, and he was a good friend of the marine who’s flag was burned. I know the guilt he is living with. I want them all to have own up to the crime, and hopefully personal apologies to each victim is just the start. These young men have learned the hard way how actions do have consequences.

This type of vandalism and desecration is beyond the level of a “stupid prank.” These young men have committed a serious crime, and have caused much unnecessary grief. Apologies are certainly a good beginning. Unfortunately for them and their victims, an apology alone will not suffice. I may have done some foolish things as a boy, but arson and reckless vandalism were not among them.
