We went to Colorado this summer from Missouri. The number of irrigated fields we saw on our trip was just amazing. These enormous wheeled arms just keep going around and around and I have no idea how much water was being used.

A lot. About half of all water used (71 billion gallons out of 140 billion gallons per day) is used for irrigation. Only about 13.1 billion gallons per day is used for public and rural water supply. The rest is industry and power production.
