Reagan biographer and conservative strategist Craig Shirley e-mails in response to Rudy Giuliani's invocation of the "11th Commandment" in a CNN television package.
“Rudy Giuliani knows as much about the 11th Commandment as he does about conservatism, which is very little. The 11th Commandment was a term created by the Chairman of the California Republican Party, Gaylord Parkinson in 1966. Reagan adopted it to mean that one Republican did not attack another Republican’s patriotism, fidelity or sobriety. Politicians like Giuliani hide behind it when criticized by another on issues, which Reagan did plenty against Ford in 1976 and George Bush in 1980.”
Shirley is the author of “Reagan’s Revolution” and the forthcoming book “Rendezvous with Destiny." He is also the chairman of the board of the revised Citizens For The Republic, a Reaganite revival political group that's already raised around $20M.

Um, Giuliani wasn't NYC mayor until just before Reagan was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
In other words, it's hard to make a case Giuliani was distancing himself from Reagan when - at the time - Reagan was already long out of politics.
That is not only distancing himself from Reagan--that is a slap at Reagan!
He is just shillary moved a little to the right.

Excuse me for butting in but nope, sorry, wrong answer.
On the Smoking Gun you'll find Rooty's 'play-book' for his 2nd run as Mayor against Dinkens (remember he lost the 1st time). There's a whole chapter on how Rooty was to distance himself from RR and inoculate himself from charges that Rooty was a 'Reagan Republican'.
The bottom line is that Rooty is a political chameleon at best, a political whore at the worst (my monies on the latter).
Ooops almost forgot - there's also that You Tube Video of Rooty saying he would run on any platform to get elected. Republican, Democrat(ic), Liberal, makes no difference - just get ME elected.
