To: Norman Bates

It was one of my top five bonds of all time. Lazenby did a very good job.

It was just that the movie had a downer ending that made it unpopular.

However,it was not a money loser, If I remember correctly, it was only second to Butch Cassidy as a money maker in 1968.

“OHMSS” is one of my top Bonds for sure. For a man who had never previously acted in any movie Lazenby did a very convincing (and fun) Bond. Shame he never continued his 007 career and went for the really low hanging fruit...

It did come out in the very last days of 1969 - if I recall correctly - so I don’t think it was competeing with “Butch Cassidy”. The movie did make plenty of money.
