BTW, Reagan wasn't the one pushing for an amnesty, like Bush is. Yes, he could have and should have not signed it. But he wasn't the one pushing the Senate to write the bill, to his credit. Unlike the current administration.

A distinction without a difference, in the end--for all his pushing, Bush hasn't gotten the bill to sign. Reagan could have not signed it, and actually did. Which actually MADE that the law of the land, as opposed to just wishing he could?

I'm not giving Bush any free ride on this--he's flat-out wrong--but we too often make excuses for Reagan. He was not perfect and should get criticized for the things he did wrong.

Yes, I get your point. You’re looking at the end result. I’m looking at intent.

I think if given half a chance, Bush will create an even bigger mistake than Reagan did. Let’s hope this next year until nov ‘08 is uneventful!
