I was thinking of him as a candidate and of his track record as governor of CA since we're thinking of this list as a precursor to selecting a candidate. As a candidate, I'd say abortion wasn't Reagan's strong suit, either.
But you gotta admit, his calling it amnesty and saying it was a mistake is heads above what the current administration is doing.
No, I don't--signing an amnesty into law and later saying he was wrong doesn't change the fact that he signed an amnesty into law, something Bush hasn't done. Yet.

Only because the House has refused to let amnesty pass. They're the only body standing between us and 20 million new overnight citizens.
And Bush hasn't the honesty to call it amnesty, as Reagan did. He uses PC buzzwords to try to shove it down our throats, while pretending it is something else. I think that is far more devious and dishonest.
BTW, Reagan wasn't the one pushing for an amnesty, like Bush is. Yes, he could have and should have not signed it. But he wasn't the one pushing the Senate to write the bill, to his credit. Unlike the current administration.
