Really? Is that the only consideration here?

Boy, that’s good to know since our military’s supply lines go through Turkey, and there is absolutely no one left alive in Turkey responsible for anything that happened in WWI. However, since we have about 120,000 active duty personnel in the region, and since the US seems to pick up the historical check for any moron with a theory about who owes whom,

I guess that will be OK seeing our troops run out of ammo in the middle of a firefight. Al Qaeda is on the ropes there, so this will be perfect timing on our part, since the very best thing to do historically is make war on the US. We’ll bomb you back to the stone age, and then rebuild you better than we have it stateside.

And since we have a moral obligation to take on the actions of people long since dead, I suppose you’ll be the one handing your property over to some unnamed African American representative in compensation for something you had absolutely NOTHING to do with over 200 years ago.

The Jews will also be suing the Egyptians, and the Spaniards the Muslims, and so on and so on.

It’s your precise point of view that helped usher in WWI in the first place. Entangling alliances and bad nationalism. The irony is actually perfect.

My mom tells me when she was a kid it was always “the poor Armenians” that would be referenced when she didn’t eat her peas when she was a child. (She’s 89). I hope Pelosi doesn’t hold her complicit in their genocide.

I was listening to some talk show where they were saying anything done in gov’t now is just to throw stuff against the wall and see what sticks for the 2008 elections.

However, this vote seems a bit off of any political agenda, and only serves to turn Turkey against us. Not that Turkey has perhaps ever been “for” us, but at least we have had an “understanding”.

RE: Really? Is that the only consideration here?

I too find that troubling.

I have posted (in replies) several comments about the Resolution being secondary now that the Armenians are about to start litigation. No surprise, the purpose of all this is getting money and territory -- enough already with condemning Turkey, make 'em pay. That's the ticket now.

In particular I've referenced Mr. Harut Sassounian author, publisher, and prominent activist promoting Armenian issues and causes.

The comment that "we are morally obligated to say so (if nothing else,) regardless of the consequences." (I.e., pass the resolution no matter what it does to the troops.) is troubling because I've also heard several talk show callers say exactly the same thing even when the host explained the consequences to our troops!

The Armenian Diaspora here in the U.S. is politically powerful and IMO will not care one whit about the security of the United States of America if it interferes with getting what they and Armenia are after. That's my opinion. Of course, the Rat Party (formerly the traditional, patriotic Democratic Party) will be with the Armenians 100% as long as it helps their Party.
