There is absolutely nothing revolutionary about the 380 especially when it comes to nearly driving the company into the ash heap of aviation. This feat has been done many times before. The 787 is truly revolutionary, right down to the turbines that generate enough electricity to light up the town of Toulousse.

EADS (Airbus Parent) Concord

In total, 20 Concordes were built, six for development and 14 for commercial service.

High fuel costs and low passenger capacity combined to make the Concord a very expensive form of transportation compared with the Boeing 747. No Concord reached 25,000 hours while 747s exceed 100,000 hours.

I saw the Concord vs. Boeing SST match-up as a kid and this is deja vu all over again. Boeing opted to build the slower but economical 747 rather than the SST. The French seem to have omitted economics once again and designed biggest as opposed to fastest forty years later.
